What’s new in the world of food events, pop-ups, products and restaurant openings

Foodies are in for a treat, Basque Experiences are offering you the chance to accompany acclaimed chef and restauranteur Jose Pizarro on a trip to his home region of Spain. The four-night trip in October includes cooking classes and dining with some of the world’s greatest chefs. But be quick, there are only 10 places up for grabs.

Date for the diary. On 27 October chef John Lawson will be hosting evening with the help of his former mentor, Raymond Blanc OBEand fellow protégés Robin Gill and Ollie Dabbous, in aid of ‘Brain Tumour Research Campaign’. Taking place at his restaurant FOOD in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, brain cancer survivor Lawson, Blanc, Gill and Dabbous will cook only seasonal ingredients which activity benefit the brain. Aiming to raise £10,000, each chef will create a beautifully presented dish free from gluten, dairy and refined sugar.

If Mamma Mia! has got you into the Greek spirit, whisk yourself off to a Greek island and into Meraki restaurant in Fitzrovia. Another fabulous restaurant from the Waney family (of Zuma, Roka, La Petite Maison etc.) and with renowned Greek chef Athinagoras Kostakos heading up the kitchen, the restaurant is a perfect match of authentic Greek cuisine with a modern twist.

Michelin-starred seafood restaurant, Angler is launching a summer partnership with award-winning English sparkling wine, Nyetimber. Located on the restaurant’s seventh story terrace and decorated with vibrant summer florals, the terrace will bring the best of British produce to the heart of the city until mid-September.

Patron Tequila is on tour again this summer and will be whipping up their famous cocktails at the Houghton Festivalin Norfolk (9-12 August), the Lost Village Festival in Lincolnshire (23-26 August) and The Big Feastivalin the Cotswolds (24-26 August). The Chef’s Kitchenwill be there too, so come say hello!

They have just launched some exciting new masterclasses to help you get the most out of your cooking gadgets. Blanchette’s Watermelon Cooler 

French bistro, Blanchette in Soho is sharing their Watermelon Cooler, perfect for the heatwave.

Ingredients

50ml vodka
25ml Cointreu
Dash Peychaud’s bitters
Half lime (squeezed)
Watermelon 1 slice (muddled)

Method

In one side of the shaker add the vodka and Cointreau

Add bitters to colour the vodka (red) then add the squeezed lime

In the other side muddle the watermelon

Pour everything together and shake (hard)

Double strain to a rock glass then garnish with watermelon.
