The Foodie Edit: 25 June

What’s new in the world of food events, pop-ups, products and restaurant openings

The masterful Phil Howard from Elystan Steet is bringing his Michelin-starred cooking to The Gallivant Camber Sands near Rye in Sussex. As part of The Legends of the Dining Room series, Phil will be in the kitchen on 17 July and it’s an evening not to be missed. Tickets for a four-course meal are £65. The Gallivant also has bedrooms if you don’t fancy driving home.

Cub, the drinks-led dining experience by award-winning duo Ryan Chetiywardana (aka Mr Lyan) and Douglas McMaster, could soon be popping up in a community garden near. The postcodes of the London dinners will be announced when booking, the exact location revealed the day before. The Secret Garden Supper Clubs take place on 1 and 30 July and 27 August. Tickets are £60 per person for all food and drink.

Events in the Sky is back in London from 5-15 July on the South Bank. This year there are three tables suspended 100ft in the air with menus designed by the likes of chefs Robin Gill, Lee Westcott and Pascal Aussignac. Book for breakfast, lunch, dinner or afternoon tea. Tickets from £75.

The Levin is a local favourite in Knightsbridge, with just 12 bedrooms and some rather good food in the Metro restaurant courtesy of new chef Danny MacGechan. The emphasis is on good British produce and the small plates perfect for sharing. Book soon and you can choose four dishes and only pay for three.

This Summer gin-lovers can rejoice with the news of the Gin and Disco Festival, taking place across various venues over the next few weeks. Having already hosted a sell-out party in Chester, additional events will take place in Liverpool, Edinburgh, Southampton, Glasgow and Stoke-on-Trent.

We like the sound of Crockers Chef’s Table in the pretty village of Tring, Hertfordshire. A chef’s table for just 15 diners with ex-MasterChef: The Professionals finalist, Scott Barnard in charge of the cooking. There’s a choice of lunch and dinner menus, including a vegetarian tasting menu.

Heading north, the Bowhouse Food Weekends are fast becoming the biggest event in Fife’s foodie calendar, with an ever-changing line up of innovative and interesting local food and drink producers. The event is free to attend and being held 7-8 July, 11-12 August and 8-9 September.

Ibiza bound this summer? Then don’t miss Chiringuito Blue a new all-day beachside restaurant and bar in beautiful Santa Eularia. Curated by award-winning Israeli chef Haim Cohen, the all-day menu focuses on local, fresh produce from the nearby farms and producers, drawing on Mediterranean cuisine and giving it a Middle Eastern touch.
