The Foodie Edit: 30 July

What’s new in the world of food events, pop-ups, products and restaurant openings

This has to be one of the coolest collaborations of the summer; luxe shoe designer Charlotte Olympia and Ladurée have joined forces to create a wonderful signature fragrant tea and a special collection of those amazing macarons. Put the 29 August in your diary because this is one collection that is going to sell out fast!

Anyone at the Wilderness Festival on Thursday? The Woodfired Canteen will be cooking their delicious food for 300 lucky guests. Co-Founded by Ben and Sam Quinn, Woodfired Canteen has built a cult following for hosting ‘experience’ dinners in special locations, serving up creative food cooked over wood fire. The team’s HQ is open to the public at Wheal Kitty Workshops at St Agnes in Cornwall every weekday 9-5.

Off to BBC’s Countryfile Liveat Blenheim Palace at the weekend? Drop in to the Kitchen Theatre for a demo with chef Ed Baines preparing delicious dishes and demonstrating how the GROHE Red kettle hot water tap can be used to cooking at home easier. Visitors will be able to sample a variety of dishes across the four days including beef kettle hot pot and salmon poached in hot water from the kettle.

Loving the new weekend brunch menu at Ella Canta Martha Ortiz’s glamorous Mexican restaurant on Park Lane. Haven’t been yet? It’s a must for cocktails with some of the best margaritas in London. For £45 you can enjoy three courses and unlimited glasses of those margaritas too!

One of our favourite tipples of the summer is The English Drinks Company Orangery Gin which we are pleased to say just won Silver at the IWOC 2018. The traditionally crafted gin, made in Shrewsbury, is infused with Valencian oranges and it makes a delicious addition to your cocktail collection.

It’s National Oyster Day on the 5 August, discover more about our favourite molluscs with a Masterclass at Bentleys, £65 including oysters, Champagne and a goodie bag. Head on down to Quaglino’s and try the Nduja devilled, Vermouth Gratin Oyster or Simpson’s in the Strand for the West Mersea Rock Oysters.

The latest addition to the food scene in Belfast is the Seahorse Bar & Restaurant at the new Grand Central Hotel. The kitchen is in the capable hands of executive chef Damian Tumilty, his signature roast Irish beef sandwich, filled with Hannan’s salt aged sirloin with a tarragon emulsion and shallots has our name on it!

Now this is the sporting experience of a lifetime! Join The Orbis Challenge lead by Dame Kelly Holmes in October to run, cycle and kayak around Malawi to raise awareness and funds for Street Chef, a project set up to improve nutrition using locally sourced ingredients. To book one of just 20 places or to find out more go to orbis-expeditions.com/blog/dame-kelly-holmes-the-orbis-challenge-2018/

In need of some fabulous meat, ready marinated and delivered straight to your door? field&flower is one of our favourites, specialising in free range meat from British farmers, and sustainably caught fish from the West Country too. The new marinated meat collection is a must-try; Asian marinated steak strips, Chipotle marinated chicken fillets and Hoisin marinated duck breasts to mention just a few ideas to get your mouth watering.
